~ Christmas Trees ~

I call these my tipsy trees due to their very shaky shapes and the way they dance and wave across the surface of the quilt.

I have only been doing them for about three years. They were a spontaneous effort that began soon after my mother passed away in 2003.   They became for me a form of grieving - Christmas was our favorite holiday and we both planned each unique one together. She would create the loveliest vignettes of Christmas ornaments, packages, flower arrangements and such around the house - be it on the dining table, on a small table, in my room when I was young or under and around the tree itself.

That first year I made 25 of them. I have slowed down some since then but continue to find great joy in making them each year and know that she smiles on me when she sees them.

They are small - anywhere from 7" x 8" to slightly larger- each one is unique. And I always have some around Christmas - these are some of my latest.
